Immigration

While recognizing that we occupy the lands of many tribes, including the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Odawa, this country and this city have become home to people of many national and ethnic identities, with the 11th Ward being one of the most diverse wards in the city. We believe that human rights are the rights of all people, regardless of immigration status or documentation and believe all people are entitled to healthcare, labor protections, and an education. Freedom of movement is a human right, and immigration of all kinds should be decriminalized. We oppose family separation and the detention of undocumented persons and demand all state and local cooperation with federal enforcement agencies, including ICE, DHS, and CBP, end. The horrors perpetrated by ICE and CBP, including the forced sterilization of women in ICE custody, clearly demonstrate the inhumane violence of immigration enforcement. Locally, the Chicago Gang Database disproportionately affects communities of color and undocumented immigrants and it needs to be erased without ability to retroactively access for any level of law enforcement.
