Housing

We believe that housing is a human right. Maintaining accessibility, affordability, walkability, and justice in housing is important. 11th Ward residents are at risk of being displaced due to the efforts of predatory developers and landlords. We believe that the ideals we seek can be accomplished through community-driven zoning and development; increasing low-income housing stock; increasing public housing investment; and providing increased protections for renters, including legal representation in eviction court. To address the homelessness crisis facing our country and our houseless 11th Ward neighbors, we support a “Housing First” model, which would get unhoused residents into permanent, stable housing without delay or bureaucratic barriers and believe it is the responsibility of our legislators to make this a reality. We oppose flat deconversions, downzoning, and demolitions that deplete affordable housing stock and the destruction of low-income housing.
