Revenue Sources & Budgets

Working-class individuals and families face record-high levels of unemployment and debt even as the wealthy and corporations are seeing more profit than ever before. While the City of Chicago’s solution to our budget deficit is to raise property taxes on the working class, increase fines and fees, and cut much needed funding for community services, we believe it is time for the wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share. The burden of the budget deficit should be on the backs of those who can afford it, and not the people who are already struggling due to inequitable policy. We support revenue sources that shift that burden to wealthy individuals and large corporations, such as a Financial Transactions Tax or real estate Vacancy Taxes.
